The ten things travelers ask us most.

What is an eSIM?

An eSIM is a digital SIM built into your phone — you install it by scanning a QR code, no physical card needed. VamosData eSIMs are data-only: they give you mobile internet at your destination but no phone number, calls or SMS. Your usual number keeps working alongside it.

Will my phone work with an eSIM?

Your phone must support eSIM and be carrier-unlocked — both conditions. Most recent models qualify (iPhone XS or newer, Pixel 3 or newer, recent Samsung Galaxy), but regional variants differ, so don't guess from the model name.

When should I buy and install my eSIM?

Before you travel, over Wi-Fi. Installing the eSIM does not start the plan — most plans activate when the eSIM first connects to a network at your destination, so you can set everything up days in advance without losing a single day of validity.

How do I install the eSIM?

Scan the QR code from your confirmation email or your account dashboard: Settings → Add eSIM → Use QR code. Each QR installs only once, so don't delete the line afterwards. Alternatively, you can also enter the SM-DP+ address and activation code from your order manually.

How do I activate the eSIM when I arrive?

Select the VamosData line for mobile data and turn Data Roaming ON for that line. That's it — the plan starts when it first connects to a local network. If nothing happens, toggle Airplane mode off and on so the phone re-registers.

Why do I have to turn on Data Roaming?

Because your eSIM connects through a local partner network, which your phone technically treats as roaming. Turning it on does not cause extra charges — the plan is prepaid and the price never changes, and it only needs to be ON for the VamosData line. Just make sure the VamosData eSIM (not your home SIM) is selected as your data line, so you don't rack up charges on your home carrier.

Can I use my normal SIM at the same time?

Yes — that's the standard setup. Your phone runs both lines at once (dual SIM): the VamosData eSIM handles data while your usual SIM keeps receiving calls and SMS on your normal number. Keep your home line's data roaming OFF to avoid charges from your home carrier. Just double-check your phone is using the VamosData eSIM — not your home SIM — for mobile data.

When does my plan start, and how long does it last?

Most plans start counting validity from the first connection at the destination — not from purchase or installation. Some plans activate on purchase instead; the activation type is shown on the plan card and in your order details.

What happens if I run out of data?

Top up the same eSIM from your account while the plan is still valid — the extra data is added automatically, with no new QR to scan. Expired plans can't be topped up; in that case buy a new plan for your destination.

Can I get a refund?

Yes, as long as the eSIM has not been installed or activated. Once the QR has been scanned, the plan is no longer refundable. Contact support with your order number and we'll take care of it.
